How to send an EPUB to Kindle

Use Amazon’s web uploader, a mobile share sheet, or your Send-to-Kindle email address. The best method is the one that gives you a clear result and sends to the right account.

Amazon accepts EPUB through Send to Kindle and converts it for your Kindle library. That is different from copying an EPUB directly to a device by USB. Start with a DRM-free file you are allowed to use, confirm you are signed into the intended Amazon account, and keep the original until the delivered copy has been checked.

Method 1: Send to Kindle on the web

1. Open Amazon’s official Send to Kindle page and sign in.
2. Drag the EPUB into the upload area or choose it from your device.
3. Check the displayed filename, title and author.
4. Select the library or delivery options offered by your account.
5. Send the file and wait for the page to report success or failure.

The web route is usually the easiest to troubleshoot because it exposes the upload status in one place. Amazon currently advertises web delivery for files up to 200 MB, although another route or account setting may impose different constraints.

Method 2: Share from a phone or tablet

In a file manager, browser download list or reading app, open the share menu and choose Kindle. Review the title and author, enable the option to add the file to your library when available, and send it. If Kindle is missing from the share sheet, install or update the Kindle app and enable it as a share destination.

Method 3: Email to your Kindle library

Amazon accounts provide Send-to-Kindle email addresses for compatible devices or apps. Attach the EPUB to a new email and send it from an address approved in your Amazon personal document settings. Do not rely on a large signature, cloud-drive link or forwarded email thread; send a clean message with the book attached.

Email delivery adds two account checks: the destination address must be correct and the sender must be approved. If the email is rejected before conversion, verify those settings before modifying the EPUB.

Before sending

• Use the real .epub file, not a renamed ZIP.
• Confirm it opens and navigates in a local reading app.
• Use a short, clear filename without unusual control characters.
• Check that the title and author inside the EPUB are correct.
• If the cover matters, verify that an actual cover image is declared in the OPF package.

After Amazon accepts the file

Open the Kindle library on the receiving device, choose All rather than Downloaded, remove restrictive filters and sync over Wi-Fi. A cloud item may need to be tapped before it downloads. If the title appears but the cover is grey, delivery worked; follow the missing-cover guide rather than changing accounts.

If the upload fails

An immediate browser or network failure points to the route. A failure after processing points more strongly to the document. Preserve the exact status, then use our Send to Kindle decision tree to identify the stage.
